Need Help Getting and Staying Covered?

If you are having issues with your Cardinal Care application, enrollment, or renewal, contact the Cover Virginia Call Center Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 1-833-5CALLVA (TDD: 1-888-221-1590) or submit a request for help online through the DMAS assistance portal on the Contact Us page.

You can also visit your local Department of Social Services (LDSS) or a local application assistance site.

If your Local Department of Social Services Benefit Program Specialist is not available, you may request to speak to a Supervisor or Manager at the Agency.

Local Departments of Social Services (LDSS) are the main provider of many services to Virginia's children, families and adults. In most cases, your city or county social services department should be the first call for benefits and other services; however, if additional assistance is required, you may contact LDSS by accessing the following: citizen.services@dss.virginia.gov.

Cover Virginia and your local LDSS can help if you need:

  • A new Virginia Medicaid (Cardinal Care) or FAMIS ID card
  • To report changes
  • To check the status of your application or coverage
  • General information about Medicaid and FAMIS eligibility
  • Need help resolving a problem with your Cardinal Care enrollment

Managed Care Health Plan Enrollment

The Cardinal Care Enrollment Broker can help you learn about Cardinal Care’s managed care health plans, compare plan provider networks and enhanced benefits, and change plans.

Visit Cardinal Care (Members) for more information about managed care and for Cardinal Care Enrollment Broker contact information.

Finding Care

Cardinal Care provides comprehensive benefits and services to support members’ health and well-being.  Certain coverage types, such as Plan First and the Medicare Savings Programs, provide limited benefits. Contact the Cover Virginia Call Center or your local LDSS if you are not sure what type of coverage you have.

Most Cardinal Care members are enrolled in a managed care health plan. Managed care health plans can help their members find a provider, understand their coverage, and access additional supports. Learn more about Cardinal Care Managed Care and find managed care health plan contact information on the Cardinal Care (Members) page.

Members in fee-for-service (FFS) can contact the FFS member helpline to learn about their covered benefits and for help finding a provider. They can also use the FFS Provider Search tool to find a provider.
